A declaration, a request, and a personal plea…
Tumblr, I, and FRENZY, need your help!
As many of you know, I have been working diligently to bring the public dedicated and entertaining fiction projects from my studio BLAM! Ventures over the past three years. In that time, we have released one illustrated novel (Conspiracy of the Planet of the Apes) and three graphic novels (SPACE: 1999 Aftershock and Awe, Classic SPACE: 1999 To Everything That Was, Critical Millennium: The Dark Frontier), three of which were in hardcover, and all of which are in gorgeous full-color quality printing.
Working on these projects is extremely time consuming and expensive. There is a lot of money that needs to be put out to create one of these books before you roll the dice, put it out there, and hope for a profit to come back in. On some of them, it will be impossible for me to ever make my investment back, while others are beginning to turn profits now.
Regardless of the money they make, I create these books as labors of love. If I was not pouring the funds I do into making these books, I could be living a nice, comfortable life with the money I make from my other jobs.
Why am I telling you this? It’s simple really.
I do these books because I love doing them and I want to entertain you, money be damned.
I have a project that I’m working on now called FRENZY. As quoted by Bleeding Cool, the book is as, “if you watched JAWS and wanted the shark to win” (http://www.bleedingcool.com/2013/08/10/if-you-watched-jaws-and-wanted-the-shark-to-win/).
FRENZY is about a pack of great white sharks that turn deadly when humans interfere with their environment. While there are many human characters in this story, the “heroes” of the book are the sharks!
With the heightened understanding of our environment that we have today, it’s obvious that sharks are more victim to man than the other way around. The time seems right for a shark horror/thriller adventure that will take their side of the conflict.
FRENZY is a terrifyingly fun read, and in the end, relays the message that man is more monstrous than the largest predators in the sea.
Art director Chandra Free and I have arranged a huge array of talented artists to bring you the most fantastic paintings of sharks eating people possible. Everything about this project is love— and we need you to give some of that, too.
FRENZY is a book we cannot afford to produce on our own. As is ever popular these days, we have chosen Kickstarter to help raise the funds needed to pay the epic artists involved, and to produce a quality book for your consumption. I know it can be a scary thing to pledge money to a project that you don’t know will be coming out as planned, but I’d like to think my track record of delivering you the goods has already been proven, with four major releases in three years. My guerrilla studio, BLAM! Ventures, is behind the creation of this project just as it was for all my previous books. BLAM! is currently in the process of creating a sequel illustrated novel series to my 2011 novel Conspiracy of the Planet of the Apes, as well as producing a new series of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century illustrated novels, and working hard to be able to continue to bring you SPACE: 1999 and Critical Millennium graphic novels as well.
If you love any of my writing, or any of my books, or just want to help the little guy do big things in the entertainment world, then please help back FRENZY.
Here is a link to our Kickstarter page for FRENZY. Please watch the video, read what we have to say and check out our incentive packages (the cool things YOU get for pledging money to us) -
Kickstarter is a limited time pledging event, and ours only has 18 days left. If we don’t make our goal by August 30th, this project won’t happen.
New to Kickstarter? It’s simple. You pledge money through your Amazon account (so you don’t have to give your credit card number out to anybody new). Whatever you pledge, you click incentive gifts that you are rewarded for helping us out. Best of all, your pledge doesn’t come out of your account until and only if the Kickstarter is successful. In other words, if we don’t make our goal (in this case $30,000), the cost to you is nothing. If we do make our goal, the cost to you is your pledge amount, you get to see an awesome book about sharks getting revenge, and also whatever cool incentives you picked from our reward packages.
If 1000 people pledge $28, we get to make this book, or 500 pledging $56, or 280 pledging $100, or any combination there of.
If we can get this book funded, I promise you the ride of your life, and that I will continue to bring you amazing stories that could only originate in my demented mind.
